Half Hearted Faith

Half-hearted faith is a dangerous thing. Deliberately half-hearted faith is like playing with fire. The Bible even calls it feigned faith. That is a scary thought. Sometimes I am deeply troubled by those who claim to be Christians but seem half-hearted at best. They avoid church, serving the Lord and helping those that do serve Him. I have known some that did not live like Christians for years on end. Some seemingly half-hearted Christians have been proven to be genuine in one of two ways. Either they willingly began attending church and serving the Lord regularly or they have endured some heavy duty chastisement and then began serving Him. Some never seem to demonstrate that their faith is whole-hearted. When and while they are half-hearted it is very difficult to know if their faith is sincere. When I have been half-hearted it has been difficult for others to know if my faith was genuine. At those times it was difficult even for me to know that it was genuine.

Jeremiah 3:10: And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 29:13: And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Luke 10:27: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

1 Timothy 1:5: Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

James 2:18: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Ephesians 3:17a: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . .

Jesus living in just part of a person*s heart is unthinkable. The best external evidence that one*s faith is genuine is to see God at work in his life (and in my own).

Philippians 2:12-13: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
